Increased Participation

The second season of India’s Got Talent began with an increased excitement: greater than its previous season. It began to be aired in July, 2010. The show, due to the success of its predecessor, witnessed an increased participation as contestants from all corners of the country rushed to audition for the show.

Change in Judges

While Kirron Kher and Sonali Bendre continued to chair the show, Shekhar Kapoor was replaced by the witty Sajid Khan. Sajjid, a director by profession, was loved by the audience for his instant witticisms and comic-timing. The audience chuckled to his jokes as they enjoyed the iconic performances by the talented participants. The show was hosted by the famous duo: MTV VJ Nikhil Chinappa and Ayushmaan Khurana, winner of MTV Roadies 2 and later turned actor.

After braving heated competition, the chosen 10 participants were: Bir Khalsa Group (Second Runner Up), Diwakar and Sonia (Acrobatic Performers), Fictitious Group (Dancers), Harihar Das (Dancer), Manas Kumar Sahoo and Group (Sand Art Performers), Shillong Chamber Choir (Winner), Sanjay Mandol, Teji Toko (First Runner-Up), Underground (Band), Masoom Arif (Bhangra Dancer).

Such was the success of its predecessor, that India’s Got Talent Season 2 witnessed performances from far-fetched corners of the nation. Belonging to Shillong, the Shillong Chamber Choir’s winning performance took the country by storm. The choir was formed in 2001 and continued to enthrall the audience till their last act. Their spectacular rendition of popular classic, ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ is popular on the Internet. The choir had also performed in the 6th World Choir Games held at China in 2010 where it won Gold in various singing categories. Led by Neil Nongkynrieh, a professional pianist, their performances are mostly a fusion of western music with opera singing. The 15 member group took home the grand prize of Rs. 50 lakh.

Noteworthy Performances

Manas Kumar’s group transfixed the audience with his intricate designs with sand. His creations almost always involved a message conveyed to the audience. Underground Authority too was admired by the audience and judges who couldn’t help but rock their heads to its music. Teji Koko’s dexterity at drum-playing was adored by all who witnessed the swiftness of his hands. Diwakar and Sonia’s acrobatic performances kept the audience at the edge of their seats.

A Memorable Experience

Season 2 of India’s Got Talent ended with stunning performances, spectacular acts and iconic stunts making the season a memorable experience for the participants as well as the audience.
