Indian Idol is an India’s reality television series where people are judged based on their singing talent. It already proved as a big opportunity to lot of talented amateurs to show their talent in front of whole country. It has been noticed that heavy rush of people from all the corners of India appeared for auditions to fulfill their dream of being a famous singer.
Indian Idol season 1 debuted in India on 28th October 2004 on Sony Entertainment Television. Lot of people came up in auditions but out of which only few were selected for final stage of Indian Idol. The show was well hosted by Mini Mathur and Aman Verma. Panel of famous singer named Sonu Nigam, music director Anu Malik and Farah Khan – big name in entertainment industry, judged the show. There were 12 finalists selected among all contestants based on audience vote. The show finally concluded on 5th March 2005, in which Abhijeet Sawant from Mumbai won the competition by obtaining maximum votes.

Popularity after the Show
Abhijeet Sawant later released his first album Aap ka Abhijeet followed by his second album Junoon which gave him big success and he also sang songs for many Bollywood movies. Later he was also seen in Asian idol where he came at third place and in a dance show namely Nach Baliye season 4 where he participated along with his wife. He also participated in show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar where he proved himself by attaining position as first runner up.
After Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana from Chhattisgarh was the first runner up of show and he also got a chance to sing with a winner in the album Aap Ka Abhijeet. Later he also participated in reality show named Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar on Star Plus. This show proved as great opportunity as later he got many offer to sing for Bollywood movies.
Among all other contestants, Rahul Saxena was the one who couldn’t make to top six but still got a chance to sing for the Farah Khan’s movie Om Shanti Om. Apart from that, Rahul vaidya from Nagpur was a second runner up of show came up as host of dance show Jhoom India and as playback singer of many movies.
This show proved enormously successful was produced by Fremantle India. This show is a replica of famous UK show Pop Idol created by Simon Fuller.
