Dance India Dance – First Blockbuster Dance Reality Show
The maiden season of Dance India Dance began airing on May, 2009. The first dance competition to host individual dancers performing on Zee TV, DID Season 1 turned into an instant hit. Audiences witnessed unprecedented performances from talented participants who enthralled us by performing unique dance-forms. The hitherto lesser-known judges too turned into a surprise package as they amused us with their chemistry. The competition was judged by Geeta Kapoor, Terrence Lewis and Remo D’Souza. Famous yesteryear actor, Mithun Chakroborty donned the hat of Grandmaster.
A Spectrum of Performances
Dance India Dance Season 1 played host to a broad range of dance-forms including: Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Samba and Bollywood. The audience too enjoyed watching unique dance-steps on TV for the first time. The judges too possessed expertise over a variety of dance-styles. With judges explaining the dance forms, the experience turned out to be memorable.
The Winner of Dance India Dance 1
Muhammad Ghouse, who went by stage-name ‘Salman’ caught everyone’s attention as he won the first season of Dance India Dance. A mechanical engineer by profession, Salman hailed from the metropolitan city of Bangalore. He belonged to ‘Remo ke Rangeeley’, Remo’s team. Salman’s expertise was in Western Style of Dances including Salsa and Hip-Hop. A true mama’s boy, it was his mother’s blessings coupled with his hard work that won him the hearts of many and the prestigious ‘Taqdeer ki Topi’.
First Runner-Up of Dance India Dance Season 1
A 17 year old, Alisha Singh from Ranchi, Jharkhand came second in the first season of Dance India Dance. Alisha, who came to Mumbai to join the dancing industry, always dreamt of becoming a dancer by profession. She was a part of Terrence’s team: ‘Terrence ki Toli’. The ‘Ranchi ki Rajkumari’, as Alisha was famously called, was known for winning Boogie Woogie thrice and was a trained classical dancer.
Second Runner-Up of Dance India Dance 1
Siddhesh Pai from Goa came third in the first season of Dance India Dance. An amateur dancer with no professional training, Siddhesh possessed experience working with dancing stalwarts like Saroj Khan and Bosco-Caesar. He was also known for his performance in Aaja Nachle, where he shared the stage with dancing sensation, Madhur Dixit. Siddhesh, known for his cute looks and dancing adroitness was judge, Geeta Kapoor’s favourite and belonged to her team: ‘Geeta Ki Gang’.
An Instant Hit
Dance India Dance Season 1 rocked the charts as its TRP soared new heights. The show was admired by the audience for its candid nature, intricate dance forms and experience judges.
